3 Benefits of Creating a Vision Board This Year

Things like vision boards can have a negative connotation. As little as two years ago, I too, might have scowled at the idea of creating a vision board. But I will admit I have been swayed by recent evidence that supports how effective they can be, if done correctly. As I have discovered through my own practice, vision boards can be fun, effective, and help you keep in the forefront of your mind all that you wish to call in.

I think we can all agree that the human imagination is far reaching and extremely powerful. Just like all parts of the mind and body, you have to constantly exercise your mind like a muscle or else all that power remains as potential and is never fully utilized. A vision board provides an opportunity for you to use your imagination muscle regularly. However, I want to be clear, simply creating a vision board and then shoving it under your bed or in the back of your closet and never looking at it again…DOES NOT WORK!

Manifestation is so much more than simply making a wish and sitting back and waiting for what you wished for to come true. This is not magic fairy dust stuff. Action is required!  In fact, Law of attraction is not magic at all. But, use it in the right way and magical things will happen. 

You see you have to want the things you put on that vision board down to your core. You have to want them so much that nothing will deter you from reaching that goal-no matter how hard, or how many obstacles trip you up along the way.

Unlike other vision board articles, I am going to throw in a bit of a twist. As opposed to focusing on the outcome, I want you to focus on the action steps required to reach that outcome. I talk about this more in my video here:

According to one study, when individuals focused on and visualized success on an exam, such as getting an A+, they were apt to score lower than if they focused and visualized themself studying and being adequately prepared for the test.

What does this tell us? It is not the visualization of the achievement or outcome that guides us to manifest our dreams successfully. In fact, It is performing the smaller steps that lead up to the big goal, the action, that guides you closer to the outcome you wish to call in.

Here is another example: When I was growing up I was a competitive gymnast. I spent a lot of time visualizing myself going through my routines prior to a competition. I imagined the moves, transitions, hand grips, toes pointed, sticking my landings…everything. I visualized myself performing the perfect routine on each apparatus, thus, indirectly manifesting first place. So the work or action done well, led to that which I desired. A win!

One of the benefits of sitting down to create a vision board is that it creates space for you to take the time to get really clear on what is important to you and bring into consciousness the things that you truly desire.

 

Have a vision. It is the ability to see the invisible. If you can see the invisible, you can achieve the impossible.

3 benefits of creating a vision board

A vision board has several benefits, each incredibly important or valuable in their own way.

Here are the benefits I’ve taken from keeping, and reflecting daily upon, my vision board:

1. A vision board created with Intention Motivates You to Take Action

As I mentioned already, a huge part of attraction is the last 6 letters of the word…attrACTION. For anything to happen in your life, you must do your part, and a visual reminder of what you are trying to attract is one heck of a motivator.

A key to amplifying your vision board is to create one that has more than pictures. Add in action steps that you could take to accomplish your goal. This could be as simple as doing research, setting a budget, or asking an expert for next steps.

In a study, they found that focusing on achieving the smaller tasks needed to reach the bigger reward led to more people achieving their end goal.

Regardless, the most important step of any vision board is taking the visual cues and connecting them with the emotions you feel having achieved and received that which you desire.

2. A vision board creates the visual cue to stimulate the inner emotion of gratitude and belief

When you know what path you are trying to take, it is so much easier to reach your destination. Taking a thought, or a dream, and transforming it into achievable action steps makes the outcome appear more attainable. Once you start seeing evidence that what you desire is achievable, your belief begins to sky rocket.

Imagine having a dream that you have dreamt for decades and suddenly realizing, “Oh My Gosh. I think I can really do this!” How would that make you feel? Excited, over-joyed, GRATEFUL?!

That’s one of the most powerful benefits of a vision board. No matter what you believe about yourself, no matter how much self-doubt you have, a vision board done right will slowly begin to transform your inner belief system into one which is more confident, certain, and self-motivated.

3. A vision board helps you get clear on what you REALLY want

One of the benefits of sitting down to create a vision board is that it creates space for you to take the time to get really clear on what is important to you and bring into consciousness the things that you truly desire.

Once you realize that just picking something out of a magazine that seems nice but doesn’t light a fire under you, you know what doesn’t work—suddenly you start doing a bit of meaningful soul searching.

Taking a moment out of each day to reflect on that which meant enough to put on your vision board helps to increase motivation, provides inspiration, and when connected with emotions of gratitude, can provide divine guidance
